Estonia’s leading furniture company Standard is furnishing the e-Estonian Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai with a custom-made café, collaboration area furniture, and creating a new concept for a classroom of the future.

Imagine a city that is simultaneously a community centre, a renewable energy producer, always online, fast and interactive, paperless and carbon neutral, clean and quiet – a city that takes everyone into account, is accessible for everyone, and in which most places can be reached without a car.

Estonia’s booming startup ecosystem, growing green economy, the world’s best tax system and Estonia – for most of the year – being the only country in the world, having both, a female president and a female prime minister, were the highlights in 2021, based on what the almost a million users on Invest Estonia website chose to read.

Estonia uses about 15 times less pesticides than, for example Cyprus. This means that Estonia’s food products are among the cleanest, both in Europe and globally.

“Really glad to see that deeptech as a concept or something we talk about as the new wave of innovation, has become a topic,” Eve Peeterson, the Head of Startup Estonia said at Estonian Startup Ecosystem Fireside Chat 2021. “The priorities are set in governmental growth plans, so this has to bring together ministries and organizations.”

Estonian parcel locker producer Cleveron and Switzerland’s largest retail company Migros partnered to establish a sizeable parcel locker network. Cleveron’s partnership with Migros, who is among the 40 largest retailers in the world, started in the summer, and 70 indoor parcel lockers will be installed by the end of 2021.

Tartu, situated on the banks of the magnificently flowing river Emajõgi, will celebrate the 1000th anniversary of its birth in eight years’ time. It is home to one of the oldest universities in northern and eastern Europe, which has played a pivotal role in the development of the city. Before the “Athens of Emajõgi” transforms into the European Capital of Culture in 2024, Tartu will present its smart solutions at EXPO 2020 Dubai.

EstateGuru is a platform mediating short-term loans collateralised by immovable property to companies. In September, the company raised a total of nearly six million euros from Switzerland, the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Austria, Germany and Cyprus. This money will be used for expansion into Europe and also to automate processes like credit risk assessment in a way that no traditional financial institution can ignore.
