Hiiumaa Vocational School (HVS) was established in 1977. For 40 years HVS has provided initial and further vocational training, complementary training and re-qualification programs for all age groups. However, our students are mostly grown-ups, the average age is 36 years.
The main building of the school is 250 years old baroque manor – built in 1755-1772, surrounded by a beautiful park from 18th century and a garden for practical studies. HVS is the member of the Association of Estonian Manor Schools.
There are 120-250 students in the school every year (including participants of complementary training), 60% of them come from the mainland Estonia.
Work placement at companies has an important role in providing high quality training. Every year our students participate in work placement at companies in Estonia or abroad. We also host students from our European partner schools and vocational specialists from the world of work.
The school offers specialties including building and civil engineering (e.g log house builder) and transport services (e.g small-craft harbour specialist, bus driver, truck driver, etc). The school also offers a variety of training courses: sustainable agriculture, animal health care, tourism, services, labour welfare (safety), computer skills and etc.
The school is ready for cooperation with businesses. It has suitable infrastructure, staff and ability to give out certificates.
Hiiumaa Vocational School has set a goal to make learning mobilities an integral part of vocational training. The school has a long-standing experience of international cooperation: every curriculum group has at least one foreign partner – a VET school or company – and the network grows every year. In 2018, our school was recognised as a holder of the VET Mobility Charter.
Both our students, graduates, as well as teachers can take part in a learning mobility. The goal of mobilities is to support personal development and to ensure a high-quality vocational education at Hiiumaa Vocational School.
