This year’s sTARTUp Day truly impressed the crowds – 3,000 visitors, 330 startups, 163 speakers, 150 investors – which made it the biggest tech event in the region since what feels like forever.
Location for spotting future gamechangers
Estonia has a two-decade track record of successful innovations and investments which have delivered outstanding returns for founders, VC/PE, and Corporate investors. Being number 1 for unicorns per capita in Europe makes it a very promising location for spotting future gamechangers. According to Adam Fisher at a session on the Spotlight stage “If you told me that in 20 years there will be a space plane going from Silicon Valley to Estonia in 2 hours, it would make sense to me, because there are smart people in Estonia who have the right laws and the right attitude.”
Focus on science based startups
Feedback from the visitors was compelling and can be concluded with one word – amazing! The event provided exciting topics for investors and startups with very cool speakers such as the tech writer Adam Fisher, investor Kristi Saare, founder and CEO of Founders Pledge David Goldberg. Science based startups especially stood out this year with dedicated sessions focusing on health-tech and biotech. Estonian National Museum offered variety of spaces and great atmosphere both indoors and outdoors – stages, workshop and exhibition areas.
Shared values and long-lasting partnerships
Attendees reflected that if the more traditional conferences in the US and Europe have become a little dull, then this ‘festival’ provided a friendly atmosphere for meeting people, diving into new ideas with conversations flowing from the evening events to the early morning hours. It’s a place for making long-lasting partnerships based on shared values and ideas rather than just bumping into people for small-talks. sTARTUp Day has become one of the most attractive startup focused events happening in Europe today.
