Forget the wearable robots made of the nuts, bolts, and lots of cables! Estonian roboticist Indrek Must is working on a wearable robot made of textile. This new skin-like robot could turn us into superhumans.

According to Forbes, since Covid-19, the number of people who can work from anywhere has increased and now so called ‘work tourism’ is a far bigger market. Estonia is now luring these people, offering working visas as well as travel opportunities to neighbouring countries.

Snow-robots, self-driving buses and boats, urban air monitors – these are just a few examples of cool smart city projects implemented in Tallinn. And this is just the beginning! As the city is seen as a testbed for smart city solutions, many other innovations will be tested here in the coming years.

With ten years of experience in organising hackathons, Estonian-based Garage48 together with the programme Accelerate Estonia have put together an online hackathon in record time, in order to tackle the coronavirus pandemic crisis and emerge from it stronger than ever. At the time, no one could imagine that soon after the first event, they would be organising another with a global reach.

“At Invest in Estonia, we have a mandate to grow investment coming into the country and create jobs,” Head of the Estonian Investment Agency Raido Lember told the latest issue of FDI Intelligence magazine. “We map the innovations our startup ecosystem is producing and offer it to large corporations outside the country and their venture capital arms. We’re a startup nation.”

Estonian startup Veriff that provides smart and scalable identity verification closed a financing round of 15.5 M USD to ramp up global growth and sales to enterprise customers prior to a larger B-series financing round planned in the future. Money was raised from both new and existing investors.

In June, Estonia had a lot to celebrate in addition to the warm summer weather: while Tallinn was named the world’s most sharing-economy friendly city and the best city in emerging Europe for smart city development, Estonian Investment Agency was named the region’s leading investment promotion agency. And of course, we had to – yet again – celebrate the success of Estonia’s world-changing startups.
