Estonia might be compact, but its reach is getting increasingly global. Estonia and Oman have taken a step toward deepening their economic partnership with the establishment of a new Estonia-Oman Business Council, following a high-level diplomatic visit to Muscat on September 7-8.
Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna led a delegation of prominent Estonian companies to the Sultanate of Oman, aiming to expand bilateral economic cooperation beyond their current digital technology partnerships.
The relationship between the two countries is already anchored in Estonia’s digital expertise. For example, leading technology company Nortal has been operating in Oman for several years, contributing to the development of the country’s digital society.

Material exports are also starting to take off: in 2023, Estonia exported goods worth about €19.9M to Oman, mainly consisting of vessels, including warships and lifeboats (about 91.8% of exports), and wood products, per OEC.
So while ICT remains a cornerstone of the partnership, both countries see significant potential for growth in other sectors. The Estonian delegation, which included companies like Bolt, Cybernetica, DefSecIntel Solutions, and Stargate Hydrogen, explored opportunities in maritime, energy solutions, and smart transport.
The business delegation also visited key Omani institutions, including the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn), the Oman Investment Authority (Invest Oman), and the Comex technology fair. For Estonia, which traditionally has stronger ties with Nordic and European partners, Oman represents an important gateway to Middle Eastern markets.
