FinTech innovator Melanie Moos joins Estonia’s Depowise with unicorn ambitions

Melanie Moos, former KPMG Luxembourg Partner and Senior Vice President of Clearstream, has joined Estonian FinTech Depowise to disrupt the asset servicing industry.

Depowise is an Estonian FinTech company dedicated to making the asset servicing sector more profitable and automated with an AI-powered solution. Founded in late 2021, the high-flying startup was already shortlisted as Asset Servicing Regulatory Solution of the Year by The Asset Servicing Times in 2023.

Now strengthening its base in Luxembourg, a global finance hub, Depowise has announced the appointment of Melanie Moos as Country Managing Director. As a Partner at KPMG Luxembourg, Melanie Moos has spearheaded large-scale transformation programs, led business development initiatives, and fostered high-performing teams of consultants. Before that, Moos was pivotal as Senior Vice President at Clearstream, the leading European supplier of post-trading services.

“We are incredibly proud to attract such calibre of talent as Melanie Moos,” notes Artur Reiter, Co-Founder, and Co-CEO of Tallinn-based Depowise. “We’re impressed by Melanie’s ability to drive change, lead transformative projects, and bring innovative tech solutions to complex challenges in the banking and financial industry.”

The time to disrupt is now – and the heavily spreadsheet-reliant financial industry is hearing the call. “We are witnessing a huge demand for Depowise in European financial markets, including Luxembourg,” Reiter says.

Another potential unicorn for Europe’s unicorn capital?

Moos believes that the financial sector is facing a pivotal moment, as AI technologies become increasingly powerful, promising to dramatically transform the industry. “I want to be an active actor in this transformative journey,” she says.

“I’ve been thoroughly impressed by what Depowise has achieved in just 2.5 years – it is already servicing world-leading banks and financial institutions, and its growth is unstoppable. At Depowise, I found a superb team, outstanding technology, and very positive market feedback – all underscoring the company’s potential to be the next FinTech unicorn.”

With its roots firmly planted in Estonia, Depowise is uniquely well-positioned to build on such ambitions. “Estonia, the birthplace of Depowise, is a great place for tech innovation thanks to its highly skilled IT workforce, tech-friendly culture, and vivid startup ecosystem,” Moos told Techsense.

The country consistently leads Europe in the number of unicorn startups per capita, with a total of ten $1B+ companies. Estonia is also the clear leader in terms of FinTech unicorns per capita, with Wise, Glia, and Zego blazing the trail.
