Kärdla is a town of about 3,300 inhabitants, located on Hiiumaa island in West Estonia.
Road transport from Estonian mainland to Hiiumaa involves a 90-minute (28 km) ferry crossing from Rohuküla near Haapsalu to Heltermaa, a port located 25 kilometers from Kärdla. Kärdla is served by Kärdla Airport, with regular flights to Tallinn.
The island of Hiiumaa is relatively small and everything can be easily reached from Kärdla by car, including a developed industrial area and a vocational school, specialising in civil engineering and transportation studies. Hiiumaa’s largest port is located 16 kilometres from Kärdla.
