Estonia, Europe’s leader in startups and unicorns per capita, is rolling out an action plan to become a global hub for DeepTech, with hundreds of startups and dozens of scale-ups by the start of the next decade.

The Estonian startup sector is ending 2022 on a solid note with steady growth in investments, jobs, and turnover. Doubling down on DeepTech, it paves the way for another successful year ahead, Startup Estonia’s recent analysis reports.

“The next big thing will be AI,” Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said in an interview for the Life in Estonia Magazine. Estonia’s public and private sectors seem to agree as the push towards AI-driven services continues.

The Estonian startup sector continues to grow in full swing. For the first time, investments in Estonian startups have exceeded the 1 billion euros benchmark. The turnover of Estonian startups has increased by 68%. The sector employs nearly 10,000 people and has paid 83 million euros in employment taxes to the state, Startup Estonia’s recent analysis shows.

The Artificial Intelligence Centre Hamburg (ARIC) opened an artificial intelligence showroom in Hamburg, which is inspired by the e-Estonia Briefing Centre in Tallinn and presents a number of Estonian AI solutions such as AuveTech, Starship, and Flowit.

AI-powered identity verification startup Veriff has just raised $100M in Series C funding and become Estonia’s ninth unicorn.
