In the fast-growing space of drone tech, Estonia also moves at unprecedented speed. This month, Finnish-Estonian electronics manufacturer Jotel is set to begin large-scale production of surveillance drones. The company has also joined the Estonian Defence and Space Industry Association.

Jotel is an electronics manufacturer with 40 years of experience, offering EMS (Electronic Manufacturing Services) and automation solutions. The company also specialises in circuit board assembly and focuses on precision, flexibility, and efficiency.

It has now entered into a partnership with a Latvian company to manufacture circuit boards for ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance) drones in Estonia and Finland, reports Postimees. These drones are primarily used by police, border guards, and defence, where they can serve as intelligence-gathering tools.

Beyond surveillance capabilities, drones are also valuable in crisis situations, such as rescue operations. “In this turbulent and challenging world, this is a major step that creates an opportunity to contribute even more significantly to strengthening Estonia’s and the Western world’s national security and defence capabilities,” commented Ilmar Petersen, Chairman of Jotel’s Board.

“Jotel is flexible in its production processes, able to meet the demands of smaller but more frequent production batches. This flexibility is important in both local and international markets,” Imre Jõgi, a member of Jotel’s management and sales manager, explained. “We also have the capability to scale production as needed, supported by our factories in two different countries.”

Another important thing is the cooperation within Estonian growing defence ecosystem. “Through the Estonian Defence and Space Industry Association, we have the opportunity to contribute to strengthening national security and defence capabilities. Our contribution helps Estonia ensure strength and readiness to respond to global challenges,” Petersen added.
