Estonia’s march to green energy transition doesn’t stop. This week, Sunly, the country’s leading green energy developer, launched direct electricity sales to households, opening a new chapter in the journey to a more responsible and resilient energy mix.
Sunly, built on Estonian capital and headquartered in Tallinn, has evolved from a renewable energy project developer into a comprehensive energy provider. The company has been growing rapidly, and produced 217 GWh of clean energy in 2024, which is more than twice as much as the year before. Additionally, the capacity of operating parks increased from 164 MW to 334 MW. It counted over 80 business clients at the end of 2024, and will now add enter a new segment.
After successfully building renewable capacity across the Baltics over five years, the company now offers Estonian consumers direct access to green electricity at market prices with transparent, no-markup pricing. “We’ve put together an electricity package that is green and cheaper for consumers compared to competitors, as it doesn’t include the usual retail margin,” says CEO and co-founder Priit Lepasepp.
The company offers four tiered plans (S, M, L, XL) with fixed monthly fees ranging from €3 to €9, plus market-rate electricity costs. Unlike traditional providers, Sunly guarantees 100% certified renewable energy at no additional premium. The approach focuses on developing local energy communities around its wind parks, with projected electricity savings of up to 70% compared to 2024 averages for residents near production sites.
And there’s a lot of power entering the market soon, with an ambitious pipeline of 700 MW additional capacity planned over the next two years. The upcoming Põlendmaa wind park in Pärnu County will begin supplying discounted local electricity by 2027, with additional projects in Valga, Lääne-Nigula, and Väike-Maarja counties in West Estonia.
