Arbonics, Estonia’s rising star in the GreenTech sector, has clinched the prestigious Mastercard Lighthouse program winner’s trophy at the Slush conference in Helsinki, Finland.
Arbonics operates an ecosystem platform for forest and landowners in Europe – bridging the analogue world of forestry with the world of tech to fight climate change. The startup unlocks new revenue streams for landowners by helping them quantify, monitor, and sell their land’s environmental benefits, such as carbon and biodiversity.
“A small step for humankind, a big step for trees”, writes its co-founder Kristjan Lepik on receiving the prize. “At Arbonics, we are working to build the new forest economy. Together, we can help scale nature to remove a significant portion of the 50 gigatons of CO2 emitted annually by humankind. We’re excited to join the program and partner with Mastercard to scale our impact and unlock our solution for thousands more landowners”, says Lisett Luik, co-Founder & COO.
Lisett = winning. Great final pitch and Arbonics is the winner of Mastercard Lighthouse program at Slush. 🥇🇫🇮 🌳

So what’s the award about? Mastercard Lighthouse MASSIV is a program designed to empower sustainability and social impact tech startups, with the vision of 1 billion people living more prosperous and secure lives by 2025. Deforestation and suboptimal land use are some of the top concerns, too. Arbonics was part of a Fall 2023 batch, which was the most region-wide class in program history, covering companies from Norway, Denmark, Finland and Estonia.
As organizers put it, “Nordic” isn’t one language or culture. It’s an idea uniting those who value cooperation, competitiveness and quality of life. Today, the New Nordic movement is tying together the people of Nordics, the Baltics and beyond under these shared values. In an increasingly polarized world, the New Nordic identity stands apart for its commitment to collaboration, sustainability and human development.
Estonia, a cornerstone part of New Nordics, once again proves combining a circular economy with top-notch innovations and financial instruments is doable. And if you want to learn more about Arbonics’ journey, read their profile in the latest Life in Estonia magazine.
