In Estonia, autonomous robots are permitted, and the car market is steadily reorienting towards cleaner, electric-powered or hybrid vehicles. And yet, until now, the world’s most valuable EV manufacturer has lacked an official presence. That is soon to change.
According to the official press-release, Tesla is opening its first Estonian showroom on 24 April at Ülemiste Keskus — the country’s largest shopping centre — finally coming to one of Europe’s most digitally advanced nations. Until now, the nearest official Tesla locations were in Finland and Lithuania, leaving Estonian buyers to travel for purchases and service.
The public launch event will include model viewings, test drives, and the first official showcase of the Cybertruck in Estonia. Tesla established its local subsidiary, Tesla Estonia OÜ, in December 2025. The entity is owned by Tesla International B.V. in the Netherlands.
Estonia’s EV market is small but growing. The total number of registered electric vehicles in Estonia crossed 10,000 in 2024, and EVs accounted for 9.7% of new car sales that year, amounting to 2,454 units. Tesla cars, such as Model Y, usually appear in the rankings of the top-selling vehicles.
What other factors boost EV sales, beyond rising fuel prices? Under the Motor Vehicle Tax Act introduced in January 2025, fully electric vehicles in Estonia are exempt from the CO₂ component of the registration fee, making them meaningfully cheaper to register than petrol or diesel equivalents. In Tallinn, EV drivers can also park for free in designated city-centre car parks, provided they register with the traffic authority.
