Estonia’s energy storage company Skeleton Technologies invests 220 million euros to build the world’s largest and fully automated supercapacitor factory in Germany in partnership with Siemens.

Skeleton Technologies, a Global Cleantech 100 company and technology leader in supercapacitor and energy storage, today announced its Round D3 with 37.6 million euros of equity investments. According to Spiegel, this means that Skeleton is ready to enter the league of tech companies valued $1B or more.

Estonia’s Skeleton Technologies has recently signed a 35 million-euro ($43M) deal with a world leader in renewable energy production to replace energy producer’s lead-acid batteries whit Skeleton’s SkelMod modules and cover the customer’s needs until 2025.

This week, the EU Unicorns Group was created by 30 founders and CEOs of European tech companies to accelerate the green and digital transitions and ensure Europe’s leadership in the next wave of innovation. Among others, Estonian unicorn Bolt and soon-to-be unicorn Skeleton are involved in order to drive the innovation.

Estonia-born Skeleton Technologies receives an additional €51 million funding from Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the Free State of Saxony to scale up ultracapacitors production.

Skeleton Technologies, Estonian-founded Global Cleantech 100 company and the largest European manufacturer of ultracapacitors, and Marubeni Corporation, one of Japan’s largest conglomerates, have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to support commercial scale-up and customer acquisition for Skeleton’s ultracapacitors, also known as SuperBattery, in the Asian automotive sector, with a strong focus on electrified vehicles and hydrogen transportation.

Tesla-rival Skeleton Technologies, the European largest manufacturer of ultracapacitor-based energy storage, receives €41.3 million of investment, which is one of the top five funding rounds for the CleanTech sector in Europe this year.

Škoda Transportation will deliver ultracapacitor systems for 114 trams destined for Mannheim, Heidelberg, and Ludwigshafen in Germany. Skeleton Technologies, the European market leader for ultracapacitors and energy storage systems for transportation and grid applications, won the contract to supply the ultracaps.

Estonian-founded producer of ultracapacitors Skeleton Technologies and Wrights Group Ltd have signed a high-volume, multi-million-euro contract over the next 5 years. Skeleton Technologies supplies graphene-based ultracapacitors to the latest KERS enabled hybrid-electric double and single deck buses produced by the Wrights Group.

Skeleton Technologies, Europe´s leading ultracapacitor manufacturer, has signed a distribution agreement with Sumitomo Corporation Europe with the aim of providing energy storage solutions for the rapidly growing hybrid electric and electric vehicle industry.

Estonian company Skeleton Technologies will replace space satellites with more energy-efficient ones. Aside from aerospace, Skeleton’s ultracapacitors are used in other sectors, such as motorsports, heavy industry, maritime, renewables and grid.
