Tallinn-based CARÁ Health raises €620k seed to expand in the DACH region

This Estonian HealthTech startup tackles the maternal health gap with the first app in the world that combines expert advice and AI for personalised support on the maternity journey.

Founded in 2022 in Tallinn, CARÁ Health provides women with support and guidance throughout their maternity journey. Having just announced a seed round of €620k as reported by EU-Startups, the company is poised to join the ever-growing list of Estonian HealthTech success stories.

Led by Tera Ventures and with participation from Startup Istanbul founder Burak Büyükdemir via StartupIst Ventures, the company’s seed funding round brings the total funds raised to €750k. The investment will empower the company to develop its product further and expand in the DACH region.

Having won the title of Estonian HealthTech Startup in 2023, the CARÁ app today has supported over 1,000 pregnancies in Estonia alone, with one in two pregnant women in the country among its users. The problem they’re solving is a glaring one—a lack of adequate resources throughout the maternity journey can lead to an array of adverse outcomes for mothers and babies.

CARÁ Health bridges this gap by providing expectant mothers with evidence-based information, product suggestions, targeted podcasts, and masterclasses. Personalised support services include prenatal care guidance, postpartum support, and expert advice from the company’s in-house specialists.

“As a mother myself, I know firsthand some of the situations women find themselves in during the maternity process. They’re very personal, and a lot of these stories don’t get out. Still, a lot can be done during the preparation for the birth, and this is what we’re offering with our ‘whole woman’ approach during the pregnancy period. This can also prepare women for the postpartum period,” said co-founder Carina Vantsi, as quoted by EU-Startups.

In addition to the app, CARÁ Health has physical locations in Tallinn, Tartu, and Berlin. This most recently opened location sold 250 spots within the first two weeks of opening, validating market demand and accelerating the company’s German market expansion plans.

“We were already impressed by CARÁ Health’s traction in its home market of Estonia, and as a relatively recent parent, I saw a huge opportunity in what they were building, and the feedback we had from their customers and users made the stars align and made the investment decision easy,” added Tera Ventures’ Eamonn Carey.
