Estonia and Poland are not direct neighbours, but they are increasingly growing closer together, as Europe’s newest high-speed rail link, Rail Baltic, is poised to connect Tallinn and Warsaw in the coming years. With more and more economic and defence opportunities arising, now is the prime time to strengthen the ties in various sectors.
Last week, Estonia’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Industry, Erkki Keldo, wrapped up a two-day visit to Poland, where he joined a high-profile business delegation at the “ReBuild Ukraine” conference, a major international gathering focused on the economic reconstruction of war-torn Ukraine. Both Poland and Estonia are among the world leaders in supporting the country. As announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Margus Tsahkna, Estonia will host a Ukraine reconstruction conference in 2027.

This time in Warsaw, the event brought together government officials, business leaders, and international organisations working to rebuild Ukraine’s infrastructure and economy while the country continues to defend itself against Russian aggression.
“Helping rebuild Ukraine’s economy is in everyone’s interest,” Keldo emphasised, noting that Estonian companies have already been active in infrastructure and residential construction projects there. The minister argued that supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction not only aids a crucial ally but also creates opportunities for Estonian businesses and strengthens the broader regional economy.
Estonia has identified three key areas where its companies can make the strongest contribution: information and communication technology (particularly cybersecurity), defence industry capabilities, and energy solutions. On all of these fronts, Estonia has a strong track record of homegrown innovations.
During the visit, Keldo met with a roster of senior officials, including Polish Finance and Economy Minister Andrzej Domański and Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Taras Kachka, among others. He also participated in panel discussions on the conference’s main stage alongside ministers from Scotland and Ukraine.
Defence partnership gains momentum
A big moment during the visit was the deepening of Estonian-Polish defence cooperation. The Baltic Ghost Wing (BGW), an Estonian centre of excellence focusing on uncrewed aerial vehicles and dual-use technologies, signed a letter of intent with Polish Development Holding (PHR). Poland is currently running one of Europe’s most impressive rearming projects, and Estonia is also committing record funds to ensure its defence and readiness.

Founded by James Acuña, a former CIA operations officer with twenty years of experience, Baltic Ghost Wing is based in Estonia and researches drone strategy, counter-drone systems, crisis response teams, and vulnerability assessments. The new partnership signals long-term collaboration plans, with BGW’s CEO Adam Kapitan Bergmann joining PHR’s supervisory board. “We want to support each other in projects that strengthen Poland’s and Estonia’s defence capabilities,” Bergmann said, as reported by Akcjonariat.
Separately, Estonian defence company Frankenburg Technologies signed its own letter of intent with PGZ, Poland’s state-owned defence holding company. The startup has recently been in the news, tripling its valuation in the latest funding round and hailed by the Telegraph as one of the most important European defence projects, with its capable and affordable air defence missile product.

Building business bridges
Beyond government meetings, the visit covered practical business-building activities. Keldo attended an Estonian-Polish business seminar and an investment seminar aimed at connecting Estonian firms with Ukrainian and Polish partners.
The Estonian business delegation included companies such as Energiasalv Valdus/Zero Terrain, Threod Systems, Frankenburg Technologies, Skeleton Technologies, Skinest Rail, DefSecIntel Solutions, NV Trade, Digital Logistics Centre of Excellence.
