Major milestone: technology giant Amazon opens Estonian office

Amazon opens an office in Tallinn to expand its regional presence and deepen its commitment to Estonia. The new office will host Amazon Web Services and Amazon Music.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud, has supported customers across the Baltics for years. In 2023, the company launched its Estonian branch and is now opening a Tallinn office to expand its presence in the region.

According to Amazon, they are investing in Estonia because they see great potential in the region. With organisations increasingly moving their mission-critical applications to AWS, the company has a large and growing customer base in Estonia.

“We have been privileged to work closely with Estonian customers and partners for many years, supporting their innovation and digital transformation journeys,” said Kellen O’Connor, Managing Director, AWS Europe North. “Opening a new Amazon office in Tallinn marks an exciting milestone that deepens our commitment to Estonia. With this stronger local presence, we look forward to helping even more Estonian organisations accelerate their AI and cloud adoption, and build cutting-edge solutions on AWS.”

Estonia has consistently supported AWS in this process, primarily through the Estonian Investment Agency. “We are pleased to support AWS as they expand their operations in Estonia,” said Robert Lang, Director of Investor Relations at the Estonian Investment Agency. “This is another example of the strategic investments Amazon is making across Europe – whether it’s creating new highly skilled jobs or launching AWS’s independent European cloud service, ensuring that organisations and businesses can use cutting-edge cloud technologies while maintaining the highest data sovereignty standards in the European Union. ”

“Amazon’s decision to open an office in Estonia reaffirms that our open and innovative business environment is attractive to international technology companies,” said Estonian Minister of Economy and Industry Erkki Keldo. “This step will bring new knowledge and investments to Estonia and create a strong foundation for further cooperation between our entrepreneurs and global players. I am confident that AWS’s presence will contribute to both the development of the Estonian economy and the globalisation of our companies. I wish Amazon strength and success in implementing new opportunities in Estonia,” the minister concluded.
