EU-Startups who compiled the list of 30 biggest European startup hubs, listed Tallinn as the 12th largest, calling it one of the biggest surprises of this year’s ranking.
“And here comes the second big surprise of this year’s startup ecosystem ranking,” their website stated. “While in previous years Tallinn wasn’t even part of the TOP 15, this year the capital of Estonia turned out to be the 12th biggest startup hub in Europe. One of the reasons for this success are probably innovative governmental initiatives like E-Residency, which enables digital entrepreneurs to start and manage an EU-based company online.”
Estonia is the first country to offer e-Residency, a government-issued digital ID available to anyone in the world. E-Residency offers the freedom to easily start and run a location-independent business online using the convenient digital business services of Estonia. It is also the country that has most unicorn startups per capita, sales force automation service provider PipeDrive being the latest addition to the list.
