Estonia’s strategic position in European logistics is once again at play. Tallinn Airport’s southern logistics park has taken another major leap with the official opening of DHL Express Estonia’s new air and road freight terminal.
The total investments in the project stand at €24M, reports Äripäev. It was fully completed in just a year from the start, proving Estonia’s reputation for agility and openness to new investments.
The 7,260 m² complex combines 5,700 m² of freight terminal space with 1,560 m² of offices, supported by a courier loading facility and a 150-space car park. But it’s what’s inside that truly sets this terminal apart: a fully automated sorting line capable of processing up to 3,700 packages per hour, backed by 40 direct loading bays, all equipped with electric vehicle charging points.

“This is where technology and logistics meet, and where new ideas and solutions are born,” said Kristina Laaneots, Member of the Management Board of DHL Express Estonia. The terminal’s direct access to the airport apron dramatically reduces aircraft loading and unloading times, delivering the kind of efficiency modern logistics demands.
Sustainability was central to the project from day one. Developed by Airport City AS and constructed by Astlanda Ehitus OÜ, the building is designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, exceeding the initial target of LEED Silver through energy-efficient and sustainable solutions throughout.
The DHL terminal is the second major logistics facility completed in Airport City’s southern area, following the neighbouring FedEx Express terminal. With Magnetic MRO’s 10,000 m² aircraft maintenance hangar complex set to be completed by year’s end, the southern logistics park is set to boost the hub’s attractiveness for business. And for regular visitors, the airport is already winning accolades too, being named Europe’s best in the 2-5 million passengers category.
