Tallinn-based defence technology startup C2GRID has secured €300,000 in funding from German venture capital firm SunEsh Partners to advance its groundbreaking battlefield visualisation technology, writes Baltic VC.
Founded in 2024 as a spin-off from Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech), C2GRID has developed technology that transforms drone and sensor footage into near-real-time 3D models of battlefields. The system creates digital twins of combat zones where artificial intelligence automatically identifies objects and potential threats, dramatically reducing manual analysis work and providing commanders with faster, more accurate situational awareness.
“Opportunities in 3D mapping for defence and civilian use are expanding rapidly, with new ones emerging almost daily and no sign of slowing—quite the opposite,” said Professor Vladimir Kuts, CEO of C2GRID and former head of the Industrial VR & AR Laboratory at Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech). “With massive amounts of video generated on today’s battlefields, our near real-time 3D solution handles virtually any footage, giving those on the front lines better tools to defend freedom—today or whenever necessary.”

Many countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, are currently using various 3D mapping and digital twin solutions for battlefield understanding. Yet there’s a lot to improve and test for better performance.
C2GRID is developing its platform in collaboration with Ukrainian frontline units, ensuring the technology meets actual military requirements. The company plans to expand its toolkit with terrain analysis and operational planning features that can provide recommendations to unit commanders in critical situations.
The funding from SunEsh Partners—a pre-seed venture capital firm specialising in Eastern European space and defence technologies—will accelerate product development, scale business operations, and build strategic partnerships across Europe. The investment will also deepen cooperation with Ukrainian and Estonian defence forces and industry partners to broaden the technology’s applications across military and commercial domains.
