Cute, safe and extremely useful robots might be Estonia’s next big thing. Besides Starship robotic couriers and autonomous deliveries from Clevon, there seems to be a new name gaining traction.
This week, Estonia-based autonomous line marking startup 10Lines has successfully raised €1.5M in its latest investment round. Founded in 2019 by Tarmo Prints and Janno Paas, it’s a proof of one more clever application for AI-powered tech. Road marking, also known as line marking, is an essential part of modern infrastructure, but the application of paint on ground surfaces could be vastly automated with advanced positioning and navigation.
The round was led by Tera Ventures and Karista, with contributions from Butterfly Ventures and Mike Oliinyk (formerly at Uber, Wise, Wolt). This funding will support 10Lines’ expansion in the US market, where it has secured a foothold.
10Lines aims for a big goal. It uses advanced robotics and AI technology to automate line marking processes, replacing traditional methods. Their solution increases efficiency and saves costs by eliminating the need for manual operations. According to the company, their robots are able to complete tasks seven times faster.
From tests to expansion
Estonia and it’s capital, Tallinn, are the perfect test beds for these kinds of innovations. Besides straightforward and easy-to-navigate regulation, there are many collaboration opportunities. In 2023, during the year of the European Green Capital, Tallinn invited both domestic and foreign companies to come and test their sustainable products and services suitable for a smart city. There, 10Lines has successfully tested their robots at car park marking.
10Lines plans to further penetrate the US market by meeting the increasing demand for autonomous line marking solutions. With additional capital, the company will speed up the development of its autonomous robots and software, grow its engineering team, and enhance its US market presence.
James McDougall, Venture Partner at Tera Ventures said: “The 10Lines team is creating its own product category with an ingenious application of AI and Robotics to automate line marking operations. We are honored to support their vision and expand their offering to the rest of Europe and the US.”
Emmanuel Daugéras, investment director at Karista commented: “Investing in 10Lines represents a one-of-a-kind opportunity on a large downstream application of the space ecosystem”.
